MS BandMS Band is a semester length band course that provides a great foundation for further study in music through the elements of listening, performing and composing in a band/orchestra setting. All students who play band/orchestra instruments are welcome to join this class - strings, brass, woodwind, keyboards, percussion, drum kit, bass guitar and guitar. Ensemble Performance- rehearsals take place every lesson
- students are required to bring their instrument and their music to every MS Band lesson - regular practise of the band music at home is an important element of successful participation in MS Band - in rehearsals we set up the instruments and rehearse our band pieces together, in sectional rehearsals and as individuals - summative assessment is in the form of performance tests on the band music and at the final performance at the end of the semester |
Musicianship- what is musicianship and how do we develop skills as performers?
- learn musicianship skills including tuning, intonation, rhythmic awareness and keeping in time - learn music notation and how to read music - learn about composers and the context of the music we play in MS Band - engage with Grade 1 Music Theory concepts and learn music notation |
