HS Drama 1
HS Drama 1 is a dynamic and fun year length drama course focusing Year 9 students on two units of inquiry -
The History of Comedy
Writing and Devising
HS Drama 1 consists of workshops with a focus on students developing drama skills aimed at developing knowledge and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively and responding.
The first unit, History of Comedy explores slapstick comedy and physical humour as an important elements of comedy. By learning about the history of comedy, students recognise the common stock characters that have been part of different cultures over time. Using the elements of slapstick comedy, students devise comedic sketches and film them, creating slapstick comedy clips typical of the 1920’s comedy style.
In Writing and Devising, students will engage in research and developing performances from a selection of original works from Greek, Shakespearean, Restoration and Victorian eras. Students will perform their devised pieces at the Winter Arts Showcase and Spring Arts Showcase.
Performance
