Welcome to MS Art
In this semester-long course, we will explore the theme: Art & Innovation.
In our first unit: When Science Met Art, we will focus on the art of the Renaissance as a starting place for exploring European art history and practice. While studying the Renaissance, we will develop drawing and printmaking skills. We will research the work and life of Renaissance artists and learn about the technological and scientific innovations that arose during the Renaissance and their influence on visual art. We will practice discussing works of art using appropriate vocabulary, and we will learn about the place of art in context. In the second unit: The Birth of Abstraction we will explore how a changing modern society led to innovation in art within the 20th century. You will understand how abstract imagery can be developed through the use of simplification. You will develop ceramic and painting skills in the creation of your own creative, abstract works.
